You are interested in trying encaustic painting for the first time and want to learn more about the medium. We will work together to build a solid foundational understanding of encaustic painting that will set you up for a lifetime of creative exploration.
You have some experience with encaustic painting but want to continue learning and exploring your own creative practice. We will work together to build upon your existing skills as well as introduce new encaustic painting techniques to bring your art to the next level.
Perhaps you are an encaustic artist looking to shake things up a little bit by working with someone new. Maybe you want to do some planning around setting some creative goals pertaining to your encaustic practice. Whatever the reason, encaustic mentoring can help!
Whether you are an absolute beginner, an established encaustic artist, or at any point in between, encaustic mentoring is a gentle process that will help guide you as you embark on or continue your journey with encaustic painting.
I will work with you on anything related to your encaustic practice. This may include encaustic techniques and processes (glazing, ink, pan pastels, oil sticks, masking off areas, etc), helping you work through creative barriers and blockages, or helping you to define and implement business goals related to your encaustic practice.
Mentoring will take place at The Hive Encaustic Studio. I will work with you on an ongoing basis as needed. You do not need to have previous encaustic experience. All supplies, wax, and equipment are included with the exception of substrates (boards).
I recognize that when working one on one with an artist, it is important that the fit is a good one. Prior to beginning our work together, we will chat about what it is you are hoping to learn. If my skill set is not well suited to meet your needs, I will do my best to refer you to another encaustic artist who's teachings are in line with your goals.
$40 per hour plus hst with a minimum of 2 hour sessions.
Multi Day options will also be available for individuals who wish for an immersive experience or for those coming from out of town.
Encaustic mentoring is now available by appointment Monday-Sunday at The Hive Encaustic Studio.

You may believe that you 'don't have a creative bone in your body' and that you wouldn't even know where to start. Creative planning can help you discover what you might like to experiment with and help connect you with the right people and resources to get started.
You have enjoyed experimenting with art and craft and are looking to explore working with new mediums and artists. This type of planning is ideal for people facing a change such as retirement, motherhood, or moving to a new community.
Perhaps you are an established or emerging artist looking to grow your audience, step into a studio setting, or begin teaching classes. Creative planning can help you define and achieve your goals.
Creativity, no matter the form, can help to reduce stress and anxiety, boost mood, promote relaxation, create new pathways in the brain, bolster problem solving abilities and new ways of thinking, and simply bring joy and beauty to the world. We all have the ability to be creative and to create, and yet many of us don't even know where to begin.
In a creative planning session I will work with you to begin to tease out your creative interests and help you set some gentle goals around how to achieve them. I will ask pointed and thoughtful questions to help you address and overcome barriers and tap into your social capital. Creative planning is not an art lesson but rather a way to help you begin or continue your own creative journey. You do not need to have any experience in the arts.
If you are already an established or emerging artist, I will help you set some short and long term goals related to growing your creative practice and your professional development. This may include things like growing your audience, teaching workshops and classes, developing an online presence, exploring avenues for selling your work, or finding your unique voice in the market.
Each session will run for approximately 45 minutes and will be done over the phone. Expect 1-3 sessions depending on individual needs. Sessions may also take place in person at The Hive Encaustic Studio.
Call 519-497-7646 or email email@example.com to learn more or to book your session.
Each session is $35 plus hst.
During the Covid 19 pandemic, I will be offering creative planning sessions free of charge for families of and individuals with developmental differences, women in or connected to our shelter systems, and women engaged with our justice system.
I did not begin my career as an artist. As a child my mother and grandmother spent countless hours with me painting, sewing, and knitting but when I began elementary school I was taught that if I couldn't draw, the arts were not for me. It was not until my mid 20's while working with women in federal prison that I was re-introduced to my own creative practice. I knew the first time I tried encaustic painting that my life was about to change.
With a background in social services, I have worked with many individuals as they plan for the next stage in their lives. I have worked with women planning their release from federal custody, youth as they prepare to leave the shelter system, individuals with developmental differences looking to find their place in community, and women who are survivors of abuse and trauma embark on their healing journey.
I have learned along the way that creative practice has the powerful ability to change the way we see the world, change our own thinking patterns, build confidence, and connect with others. I have also learned that many of us get stuck in the expectation that we need to be proficient if we are to be creative. This is simply not true. We can all benefit from making art even if we are not good at it...…..and you may just surprise yourself. Let me help you open up a whole new world of possibilities.
Beyond encaustics, lately I have been enjoying dabbling in needle felting, eco dying/printing, stained glass, and am hoping to try my hand at watercolour and pottery....and for the record, I still can't draw.
